THE MINISTER OF ENERGY AND WATER RESOURCES is responsible for developing and implementing Government’s policy on water and energy production, transportation and distribution.
As such, he is responsible for:
- the development of Government strategies and plans for water and energy supply;
- prospection, research and exploitation of water resources in urban and rural areas;
- the quantitative and qualitative improvement of water and energy production;
- the promotion of investments in the water and energy sectors, in conjunction with the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development and relevant administrative bodies;
- the promotion of new energies in conjunction with the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation;
- the regulation of water use in agricultural, industrial and health-related activities, in conjunction with relevant administrative bodies;
- monitoring the management of water basins;
- monitoring groundwater management;
- monitoring downstream oil and gas activities;
- monitoring regulatory companies of the water and energy sectors.
He supervises institutions and companies which produce, transport, distribute and regulate water, electricity, gas and oil, including:
- the Cameroon Water Utilities Corporation (CAMWATER);
- the Electricity Development Corporation (EDC);
- the Rural Electrification Agency (AER);
- the Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency (ARSEL);
- the Cameroon Oil Depot Company (SCDP);
- the National Refining Company (SONARA).
