Minister of Social Affairs
THE MINISTER OF SOCIAL AFFAIRS is in charge of developing and implementing Government policy on prevention, assistance, and protection of socially vulnerable persons.
Therefore, he is in charge of:
- the prevention and management of juvenile delinquents and social misfits;
- the campaign against social exclusion in partnership with relevant ministries;
- the campaign against human trafficking especially child trafficking in partnership with relevant ministries;
- the protection of victims of physical abuse;
- the follow-up of procedures to protect children in difficulty in collaboration with ministries concerned;
- the follow-up and protection of victims of human trafficking, in partnership with other ministries;
- the follow up of the elderly and the disabled in collaboration with relevant ministries;
- the follow-up of drug addicts in partnership with other relevant ministries;
- the facilitation of social reinsertion;
- national solidarity;
- monitoring training schools for social workers;
- the animation, supervision and monitoring of establishments and institutions working for the implementation of the social protection policy.
He is the link between Government and the United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in partnership with the Ministry of External Relations.
He supervises the Cardinal Paul Emile LEGER National Rehabilitation Centre for Persons with Disabilities (CNRPH).
He ensures technical supervision of children’s welfare agencies except for those reserved for schools under ministries of education.
