THE MINISTER OF THE ENVIRONMENT, NATURE PROTECTION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
THE MINISTER OF THE ENVIRONMENT, NATURE PROTECTION AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT is responsible for elaborating and implementing Government’s environmental and nature protection policy with a view to sustainable development
As such, he is in charge of:
- defining conditions and guidelines for the rational and sustainable management of natural resources;
- defining environmental management measures in collaboration with the ministries and specialized organs concerned;
- elaborating sector blueprints for the protection of the environment in collaboration with the relevant ministries;
- coordinating and monitoring the interventions of regional or international cooperation agencies in the area of the environment and nature in collaboration with the Ministry of External Relations and the relevant ministries;
- monitoring environmental compliance in the implementation of major projects;
- providing information to the public to encourage public participation in the management, protection and restoration of the environment and nature;
- negotiating international conventions and agreements regarding environmental and nature protection and their implementation in collaboration with the Ministry of External Relations.
He oversees the National Observatory on Climate Change (ONACC).
He is assisted by a Minister Delegate.
