Missions :
                 

The Division of Social Affairs, Sports and Culture is responsible for analyzing and monitoring the implementation of Government policy on culture, sports, youth and popular education, employment and work, vocational training, health, safety and social assistance.

In this capacity, it is responsible for the processing and follow-up of files relating to the following sectors:

1. For social affairs

• penitentiary administration, in its social aspect in liaison with the Division of Public and Institutional Affairs;
• prevention and social assistance;
• social security:
• women’s empowerment and the family;
• the rehabilitation of people with disabilities;
• social maladjustment;
• juvenile delinquency;
• social inclusion;
• the study of individual requests for relief;

2. for culture and sports

• cultural cooperation, in conjunction with DAPI;
• the development and dissemination of culture;
• promotion of arts;
• the preservation and promotion of the historical heritage;
• matters relating to the collective management of copyright and neighbouring rights;
• monitoring the organization of teaching and functioning of training institutions in physical, sports and popular education;
• monitoring the setting up of equipment and infrastructure related to physical education, sports and sports policy;
• monitoring the practice and promotion of sport and recreation;
• the functioning of national and international sports organizations, and the monitoring of youth movements.

3. For labour, employment and health

• the application of labour laws;
• labour and vocational training, the organization and activities of trade unions,
• prevention of occupational risks,
• the working conditions of public officials and staff in the parapublic and private sectors, monitoring the pension and retirement issues of public and private sector workers;
• public health;
• Public Health and Sanitation, in liaison with the Division of Public and Institutional Affairs;
• monitoring the application of legislation and regulations concerning the practice of the medical and paramedical, pharmaceutical and veterinary professions, in conjunction with the DAPI, DARL and DAAR;
• traditional medicine.

The Division of Social Affairs, Sports and Culture monitors the activities of the Ministries of Culture, Youth, Sports, Physical Education, Health, Social Affairs, family, employment, labour and social security, as well as bodies under those Administrations. It also give opinions on any draft instrument submitted to the Prime Minister, related to its field of competence.
