PM grants audience to UN Deputy Chief for Disarmament Affairs

Prime Minister Dion Ngute has been discussing issues of relevance to peace and security in the Sub Region and Cameroon's mandate as President of the United Nations Convention on Small Arms control with Visiting Deputy Chief of Conventional Arms Branch Office of Disarmament for Central Africa, IVOR Richard FUNG.

The UN official on a working visit in Cameroon pledged the support of his organisation on the mechanism that needs to be put in place.

Visiting UN Chief for Arms Control in Central Africa who held talks with the Prime Minister, Head of Government is in the country to discuss support to the mechanism that needs to be put in place not just here in Cameroon, but also in the countries of the sub-region.
 

That is, deal with issues of illicit arms trafficking, the rise of trans-border control, fiscal stock piling to enable the States come to grips with the issue of the proliferation small and light weapons management and all other ways and means that can give the state the strength to control the flow of weapons through their country security.

The exchange with the Head of Government also provided them the platform to discuss ways and means through which Cameroon can go ahead and show the example in the sub-region as President of the Conference of the State Parties and provide support also to the latter.

The office for disarmament provides substantive and organisational support to member states in the area of disarmament, through the work of the general assembly. It fosters preventive disarmament measures as well as confidence building on military matters while encouraging regional disarmament efforts.
